Bushfire injured koalas return home
Grandcirclefoundation | 1 month ago
The news story we've been waiting to tell is finally here
At the start of the year, Zoos Victoria's vets, vet nurses and keepers were on the ground in East Gippsland, working hard to treat and save as many injured koalas and wildlife as possible.
We're excited to let you know that 14 koalas rescued during that devastating time have finally returned home.
Each of the koalas received emergency treatment at triage centres in the bushfire zones immediately after the blazes this year. They then continued their recovery at Healesville Sanctuary, Melbourne Zoo and at Phillip Island Nature Parks. Some required multiple surgeries for severe burns and many months of follow-up treatment.
